In 1964, Walter Sr. sold his interest to Louis Sr., Louis Jr., and Robert and entered the banking industry where he became chairman of the board of the First Security National Bank and Trust Company. In 1967 the long time partnership was incorporated. There was a continuation of expansion to ornamental plants and at the same time a decline in the production of fruit and fruit trees. It was during this time that there was an emergence of the garden center concept, a new form of merchandising in the nursery industry, which originated in California. We opened our first store in March , 1951 and were among the first in the area to offer these services. This was also a period when we first became involved in maintenance of industrial properties, some of these being IBM, Trane, Square D, and Sylvania.
