Frequently Asked Lawn Care Questions

1. When Should I cut the grass?

Your lawn should be mowed at 3 to 4 inches in the hot summer and 2 to 3 inches in the winter. Remember to only remove 1/3 of the total grass blade at a time so this might require more frequent mowing in the spring.

2. Are sharp lawnmower blades important?

Mowing with dull blades actually rips and tears the grass blades. This will intensify the plant injury and make it ideal spot for diseases to entry the plant. You should sharpen your blades 2 to 3 times during the season. Keep a spare blade on hand.

3. Should I remove grass clippings?

Grass clippings should be left on the lawn when mowing. Grass-cycling is an important environmental practice. Grass clippings to cause thatch because they break down to fast releasing nutrients back into the soil.

4. How much water does my lawn need?

Your lawn needs 1 to 1-1/2” of water weekly. Some symptoms of drought stress are the lawn will appear to turn bluish or purple tent. Footprints or lawnmower tracks do not go away shortly after they have been made. If your lawn shows symptoms of drought water it immediately regardless of the time of day. The best time to water is in the early morning so that you do not lose much moisture to evaporation. Regular, fairly deep watering is better than daily light sprinklings. Deep watering and allowing the lawn to dry out between watering will force the roots to penetrate deeper in search of moisture.

5. What risk do my children and pets face after a weed control product has been applied?
